The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially bowed out of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) playoff race. With just two matches remaining in their campaign, the team, led by the iconic MS Dhoni, is focusing on completing the season with professionalism despite their elimination.
The franchise has advised its overseas players to prepare to return to India within a week, signalling their commitment to seeing the league through, even as geopolitical tensions briefly disrupted the tournament.
The IPL 2025 was temporarily halted for seven days by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The suspension, announced on Friday, came as a precautionary measure, but a recent ceasefire agreement between the two nations has raised hopes for the league’s resumption.

CSK, currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with only three wins from 12 matches, is keen to cooperate with the BCCI to ensure the season concludes smoothly, regardless of their playoff status.
CSK’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, talked about the franchise’s dedication to the league’s prestige and their role in its completion.
"Although we are not in contention for a play-off berth, we want the league to be completed. The IPL is a prestigious league and we want it to cooperate with the BCCI on the matter. We have only two more games left and we have advised the overseas players that they may have to return in a week’s time," said Viswanathan as quoted by Cricbuzz.
