Players who played in 2008 and are playing in 2025 in the IPL

The Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) season turned 18 in the 18th season of the league this year. Officially the league has become an adult after it was BCCI's brainchild back in 2008.

The IPL has evolved every year with how the players have played and approached every season. Over the years, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have won five titles each and are the two most successful teams in the tournament.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won three titles and are the defending champions of the tournament after their title-winning season last year. SRH, RR, and GT have won a title each. RCB, DC and PBKS are the three franchises that are yet to win an IPL title.

Though a lot has changed in the IPL over the years, nine players have played in every season of the IPL since its inception back in 2008. What is more interesting is that they are still playing in the 2025 edition of the tournament as well. In this article, we take a look at the players who played in 2008 and are still playing in 2025 in the IPL.

The OGs Of The Indian Premier League

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is the first name among the nine players who have played every season of the IPL. He is among the most successful captains of the IPL, with a win percentage of 58.51. He started his IPL career by leading CSK, and in 2025, 18 years later, he is still leading CSK. He also went on to become the top run-getter for the franchise, surpassing Suresh Raina. He won five IPL titles as captain with CSK (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023). However, this season has not been a good one so far for him as captain, as the Super Kings are placed last on the IPL 2025 points table and struggling to get wins.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is the only player in the IPL to have played for just one franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Both have shown great commitment towards each other and have backed each other in the toughest of times. He led the franchise between 2013 and 2021, winning almost 50 percent of his games. This year, RCB has won all five of their away matches and lost all three games at home. RCB is still looking for their maiden IPL title. Kohli is the top scorer in the league with over 8000 runs in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is third on the list. He is the second captain in the IPL to have won five IPL titles as captain (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). He, along with Kohli and MSD, is among the top run-getters in the league as well. After having a slow start to the season, Rohit roared back to form with an unbeaten 76 runs in 45 balls against CSK as MI have now won three games on the bounce.

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey is the next cricketer on the list to have featured in every edition of the IPL. He played for MI in the inaugural edition of the tournament. Then in 2009 and 2010 he played for RCB and became the first Indian player to score a century in the league. His best years in the IPL have come for KKR and SRH, for whom he has scored over 1500 runs each. He won his first IPL title with KKR in 2014. A decade later, he won his second IPL title with KKR, and in 2025, he is part of the Knight Riders squad as well.

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane is another player in the league to have played in every edition of the IPL. He started with Mumbai Indians in 2008. Then he joined Rajasthan Royals in 2011, and his best in the IPL has come for the Royals, having scored more than 3000 runs for the franchise. He played for KKR first in 2022, and now in 2024, he is leading the side. He has also played for CSK in IPL 2023 and 2024. Between 2020 and 2021, he also played for Delhi Capitals.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jaddu is among the most successful all-rounders in the league. He played for the Rajasthan Royals for the first three editions of the IPL. He is among the few players to have won the IPL in the very first year. From 2012 onwards he has been associated with Chennai Super Kings and has been one of the winners for them over the years. He is the only all-rounder in the league to have scored over 3000 IPL runs and taken more than 150 IPL wickets. Currently, in 2025, he is still part of CSK.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is the next player on the list to have featured in every edition of the IPL. CSK roped him in 2008, but it was in 2009 that he made his IPL debut for the franchise. He was a key member of the side till 2015 and won two titles with the MS Dhoni-led side as well. From 2016, he has played in several other franchises until 2025, when he was bought back again by CSK. He is likely to retire after this IPL season.

Ishant Sharma

Ishant is the only pacer to feature in this elite list. He started out with Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2008 and over the last 18 years has played for six different franchises apart from KKR. He is currently playing for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 after they roped him in for 75 lakhs at the mega auction. He has picked up 95 wickets across 114 games in the tournament.

Swapnil Singh

The UP cricketer is an unlikely name to feature in this list. He has been a part of every IPL season since the inaugural season in 2008. However, it was in 2016 that he made his IPL debut for the Kings XI Punjab back then. He only played 5 times for them, 4 of which came in the 2017 season, before he was released. LSG picked him in the 2023 season. He played just two games for the franchise before they eventually released him. RCB picked him in the 2023 season, and he was retained ahead of the 2025 season. The franchise released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and bought him back for 50 lakhs for the IPL 2025 season.
