Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, also known as the Modi Stadium, was established in 1945 and named after a British lady, Madam Green, an equestrian who frequently rode horses there. The stadium can accommodate up to 45,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in India.
Located on the banks of the Ganges, this ground features two distinctive ends: the Mill Pavilion End and the Hostel End. The stadium got its floodlights installed in 2006, and since then, it has effectively hosted limited-overs day/night matches for India.
The surface here is known for being flat, offering excellent support to batters along with a lightning-fast outfield. The turf-based pitch provides even bounce and pace, assisting spinners in the later stages. This batting-friendly venue has witnessed some record-breaking performances, including Shahid Afridi’s mammoth 45-ball century and Mohammad Azharuddin’s iconic ton in Kanpur.
